File & folder permissions/ownerships

Having trouble deleting a file, or need to reset the permissions/ownerships of files & folders in your account? Permission/ownership issues can arise with files created by PHP5 (uploaded via a PHP script, for example, a uploading a template through your script [WordPress, Joomla, etc...]). When this happens, the files created by PHP are owned by the username 'nobody', instead of your actual accounts username. You can read these files without any problem, however when trying to delete or modify them in any way, you can't because they aren't owned by your account.

Perhaps you are also trying to remove a Fantastico installed script, and receiving a shell_exec problem when trying to run the 'Prepare Removal' (prepare_removal.php) script. There are only a couple of scripts in Fantastico that does this, however those that do used to require manual intervention (by us) to remove the script for our clients. Not anymore though!

What the prepare_removal.php script does is change the ownerships of all files/folders in the folder Fantastico would have installed a script. Therefore, you no longer need to use the prepare_removal.php script, because we've created our own script to do this task for you. Read more below, after the instructions!

We've developped a nifty little feature allowing you to do this on your own, without the need to submit a trouble ticket!

1. Login to billing/support section

2. Click on "My Products & Services" link

3. Click on the product details icon (to the right) of the service you'd like to work on

4. Scroll down to the bottom to find "Account Tools"

5. Change permissions or ownerships of files/folders using the provided form, if you want to cover the entire account, just click "Go" without entering any path information

To remove a Fantastico script, under the "File/folder ownerships" section, type in the name of the directory in which you installed the script that you are trying to remove, then click "Go". The ownership of the files/folders in that directory will be chowned, and then you can skip the prepare_removal.php script, immediately being able to complete the removal of the script.
